Real Wedding: a mountaintop ceremony for Popit & Ning!
December 1st, 2008

Popit Uy & Ning Dureza is the same couple who were the main subjects in the underwater engagement pictorial we blogged about here before.  For our PrepTalk which appeared in yesterday’s edition of the Manila Bulletin, we featured their story as a couple and what transpired during their wedding.

Local media dubbed theirs as the “Chopper Wedding” since there were reports saying that 10 or so government helicopters were illegally used to ferry their guests in a mountain resort in Davao. Whoa! Is there any truth to that?

We tried to find out (and not in an investigative sort of way) and here we present:  The other side of the so-called “chopper wedding”. :)

When a ‘Queen’ organizes a party!
November 29th, 2008

Queen (of Just Like Ours) with our little princess Kite

For the W@W Christmas Party, we invited Queen — a W@Wie-turned-wedding-planner — to help us handle the event.   Truth be told, we never saw pressure in Queen, together with her hubby David and the rest of their team in Just Like Ours.  Truly, they’re a breeze to work with.

Read below an excerpt of Queen’s account of the event.

Until this very day, I can’t seem to find the perfect words to describe how special this event turned out. With so much to expect ( being ecstatic and all) and little to hold on to (I have never been to any previous W@W party), the event turned out more than what I wished it would be.

To my fellow W@Wies, you have a family in this group. You make this family work out or fail. We have a lot more years to work out on. Thank you for making this party feel like everyone is home for Christmas.

Have a W@Wie Christmas and a blessed fruitful marriage!

Gift Idea: personalized iPod engraving!
November 27th, 2008

ipod-engraving.jpgStill looking for a unique gift for your special someone this Christmas?  Want to finally give your partner that iPod he or she has never gotten around into buying?

As an exclusive offer, you can add a free laser engraving to any new iPod you buy via the Apple Online Store. You can even choose a signature gift wrapping to make it even more special. The same deal is being offered in the new Apple Online Store - Philippines which just recently went live early November.

How do you go about it exactly?

After selecting the iPod you want (Shuffle, Nano, Classic or iPod Touch), you’ll be taken to a page where you can add your personal message — a name, an “I love you,” a Merry Christmas,” or just about anything.  Engraving is not yet available for the iPhone though.

You can head on to the Philippine-based Apple Online Store to buy your iPod and pay in pesos.  But we think it comes out cheaper if you buy it via Apple’s US store. Just a tip. ;)

W@W Video Fest pocket calendars
November 26th, 2008

Five videographers. One central theme.

Because 2009 will be another banner year for W@W as we celebrate our 10th anniversary, the videos premiering in PowerPlant Cinema 4 on January 30 will all be about the different aspects of W@W.  Each videographer was given a topic to focus on: it’s history, the W@Wies, the wedding suppliers, the website itself, and a general overview of how W@W has grown over the years.

The images above are actual layouts of five 2009 pocket calendar designs we’ve created to promote the videofest.  Now these videographers have lots to give away in time for the holidays! hahaha! :D

Credit goes to MetroPhoto’s Oly Ruiz for these photographs.  Read his blog entry about the videofest for his concept behind the shoot and some behind-the-scene images.

Click on a pocket calendar layout above to read each videographer’s blog entry about the W@W Video Fest.

From now until the end of January next year, the photographs featured in our 2009 calendar will be on exclusive rotation as the main picture in our homepage.

We’ll be handing out copies to our friends in the wedding industry in time for the holidays for display in their respective offices and shops. :)

Limited copies will also be available for sale at The Wedding Library (SM North Edsa and Megamall) and at the Filipinas Heritage Library (across Peninsula Manila) at P100.

If you’re one of the newlywed couples featured in our 2009 calendar, please do send us a quick note so we can send you a personal copy. :)

IT’S TIME TO PARTY!!!
November 20th, 2008

lancaster.jpgJust before December gets crazy, we at W@W goes ahead and celebrate our 2008 Christmas Party!  This year, the event is gonna be held at The Peak of Lancaster Suites (its glass walls got a breathtaking view extending to Antipolo, Laguna Lake, the Makati skyline and the Manila Bay!).  As usual, the generous people of Josiah’s Catering (thanks to Jet & Boyet Versoza!) will be providing the sumptuous food for the occasion.

Unlike the previous Christmas Parties we’ve had in the past, tomorrow’s event will be an intimate gathering exclusively for the W@Wies.  We’re sorry we can’t invite our friends in the industry as we’re holding off the big party until W@W officially turns ten-ten-te-ten in March 2009.  Besides, the 2008 W@Wie Awards won’t happen until then.

But tomorrow will also be the official launch of Happy Happy and Happy Tears — the 2009 W@W Desktop Gallery.  It will also be the release of the special edition pocket calendars featuring the five videographers we are working with for the W@W Video Fest.

It will be a different kind of party this year but we’re hoping it will be as much fun as the years before.  Queen and David of Just Like Ours will make sure that everybody will have a good time.  The raffle prizes are packed and the PartyPics Live and FotoLoco photobooths are ready to take the snapshots. Of course the steady booze courtesy of Flaming Olives will also help! ;)

If you’re among the 180+ W@Wies who signed up to attend tomorrow,  check out this location map how to get to the venue.

Kitakits!

Are you recently married and ready for American TV?
November 19th, 2008

thumb-newlywed.jpgNewlyweds@Work (N@W) is the ‘home’ of the W@Wies‘ BIG sisters.  As moderators of the said group, we recently got an email from the casting peeps of the newest version of the classic hit gameshow “The Newlywed Game” which is now being revived by Embassy Row (Who wants to be a Millionaire).  They are currently looking for potential couple/contestants to audition in the show and they requested us to help them spread the word.

What exactly are they looking for?

If you are recently married and think you know everything about your significant other — then they want you both in the show. You will get the chance to compete with other couples for the chance to win great prizes! It’s open to newlyweds of all ages. You need to be based on the US though to join the show.

Hope a Pinoy couple makes it to the show.  Best of luck! :)

On your mark, get set, AUCTION!
November 17th, 2008

Starting last Thursday, the W@Wies have been busy bidding for the 2008 W@W Christmas Auction. The items up for bidding are products and/or services donated by various wedding suppliers to help us raise funds for mounting the upcoming W@W Christmas Party (happens this Friday!) and our 10th Anniversary Celebration in March 2009.  Our annual auction is open exclusively for W@Wies who are given the chance to get the donated items at a fraction of its actual market value.

Among the big items up for grabs for this year is Jason Magbanua’s wedding coverage pegged at P75,000.  Cecilio Abad donated two bridal gown packages worth P65,000 each.  Robert Blancaflor threw in a floral and event styling package also valued at P65,000.  Threelogy and JSDV both pledged their video coverage worth P55,000.  Another wedding gown package worth P50,000 is up for grabs donated by Niko for Veluz.

There are actually more than a hundred items that are now being auctioned as we blog. Check out this list to see the complete list of the generous wedding suppliers who supported us for this endeavor.

MARAMING SALAMAT PO!

An afternoon meet & greet with Metro Weddings!
November 14th, 2008

metrowed-v8no3_big.jpgLast October, Metro Weddings hosted an intimate afternoon gathering for all its close friends and supporters at Restaurant 9501 of the ELJCC Tower. It was a casual and light-hearted event to introduce the new creative team behind one of the most comprehensive wedding magazines in the country.

As suppliers, loyal advertisers, and friends filled the beautiful venue, decorated by events stylist Henry Pascual, former Editor-in-Chief Romina Urra-Gonzalez welcomed everyone and opened the event with a brief introduction on Metro Weddings Magazine and how it has grown over the years to be the indispensable planning tool for all brides-to-be. She further went on to mention that she will be stepping down from the EIC spot to pursue new career beginnings but will stay on as an active Consultant and contributor to the magazine.

She then introduced ABS-CBN Publishing Head Ernie Lopez who welcomed all visitors and friends and gave a speech outlining all the new and exciting developments in both the Publishing and Cable Print Media groups including all the developments in the different genres.

Afterwards Romina introduced the new creative team behind Metro Weddings including incoming Editor-in-Chief Michelle Katigbak-Alejandro and Creative Director Trisha Chua-Juico. The team also includes Fashion Editor Ana Lloren, Details and Associate Editor Georgia Schulze-Del Rosario, and Editorial Assistant Ani Hila.

Incoming EIC Michelle introduced herself to the loyal Metro Weddings group of friends and supporters and outlined the plans for the magazine introducing new and exciting sections to look forward to as well as several new tie-ups with leading wedding organizations in the country. In essence, she asserted that the new Metro Weddings team is looking forward to working hand-in-hand with suppliers and advertisers to put together the best mix of both local and foreign wedding trends, tips, and articles for a bigger and even better Metro Weddings.

“Romina has done such an amazing job with this magazine, we just want to take what she’s done and go even further with it,” Michelle explained. “It’s a daunting task and she’s left incredibly big shoes to fill, but as a collaborative team effort I think we can produce an incredible magazine.”

Finally everyone helped themselves to delicious snacks and spent the rest of the afternoon talking and getting to know one another as well as enjoying the delicious cupcake giveaways prepared by Frostings. The latest issue of Metro Weddings the Best Weddings of the Year Special (cover image above) is on newsstands now. Look out for the next regular issue coming out next January.
